Yesterday I spent the entire day on a road trip with my boss, Jason. I met the writers from the paper that he recently purchased and started in another county. We had our editorial meeting at Oxbow Park amongst the animals at the zoo, in the perfect sunshine and light breeze, sitting on rocks, and I took notes with someone else's paper and pen because I forgot mine. They looked to me for guidance. I was running the meeting. I am in charge of these people, this group of adults of all different ages and backgrounds and stories. I got to know them. I listened to their ideas, I gave them mine. I heard what they had to say. I had been communicating with these people through email for the last two weeks, but it was priceless to actually see their faces, hear their voices, laugh with them.
Lunch with Jason. Chinese food. Conversation. Fortune cookie read "You will always be surrounded by true friends."
We went to the History Center to say hello, because he likes to schmooze and get to know people and he's great at it, and people love it and then they love our paper and advertise with us. "We need to get you some business cards," he said. This lady was so thrilled we were there she gave us a tour of the museum and the archives and introduced us to about four other people. It took a while, but we got away, and drove around for a while talking and joking, looking at rich people's houses and seeing his old neighborhood. I got some coffee. We had a meeting with the sales team before heading home. On the way Jason tried to stump me by naming songs from the '80s and asking me who sang them. He couldn't do it. We both went to the same high school, but never knew each other.
How do I like my new life, my new job, my new responsibilities? It's OK, I guess. =)
In spite of everything going on right now, I am still able to feel some joy, some sunshine in my heart. There is hope.
