My Archeologist

We found out recently that Drew is incredibly anemic. Most likely because of his crazy diet. He has drops he must take two times a day, and we need to come up with some iron-rich foods that he will eat. Ha!

The drops are not a problem. Added to apple juice, he takes them just fine. Along with some fiber powder, because he really needs that as well. Iron-rich foods are the problem. He has been doing some research of his own. "Ritz crackers have 2 percent iron!" he tells me excitedly. I need to find some ways to sneak spinach or other leafy greens in his diet. Without changing the color, texture, or taste of a food. Wish me luck...

His behavior has been much improved lately. It seems we are in one of those periods of time that lull me into a false sense of "everything is just fine!" But I am enjoying it the best I can. Even during these crazy Christmas get-togethers, he has coped well with the changes. He has even initiated conversations with relatives that he doesn't see very often, telling them all about his new presents. And he has discovered something that gives him pure joy that is not a video game or television show.

He put on his list that he wanted this Diggin' Up Dinosaurs item, and his grandmother came through. It has kept him occupied for a long, long time this weekend. I love to watch him. He takes a break once in a while, but pretty soon we hear him banging away at the table. His excitement when he uncovers one of the bones of the Tyrannosaurus Rex is priceless. Maybe he has a career planned out...he is really into things like this, and he also enjoys watching National Geographic specials on sea animals and dinosaurs and other animals. I love it when the kids can find something that is fun as well as educational. I can just see their little brains working, the synapses connecting, creating memories and knowledge that will last a lifetime.
