I managed to watch this movie yesterday. I took over the good TV in the living room and shooed the kids away whenever they came snooping around. I may have let Grace watch parts of Ginger Snaps, but not this film. I'm not that bad of a mother.
First off, this movie was absolutely beautiful. Colors were used brilliantly. It was visually one of the most amazing movies I have seen in a long time. Secondly, can we say creepy? I was seriously creeped out during the whole thing. And thirdly, most importantly, I felt an actual ripple of fear go through me during one scene. This has not happened to me in a long, long time.
The basic premise is that two sisters come home from the hospital to their dad and stepmom. Their mother has died in a way that we don't know until later. They hate their stepmom. They are being haunted by disturbing things in the house. We don't really understand what happened or what is going on until later on in the movie, but it keeps you watching. This movie gets very confusing toward the end. And when it was over, I had to go on the IMdB to read somebody's explanation, which confirmed what I thought had really happened. It will definitely need to be watched more than once. But that does not take away from the movie's awesomeness.
