Two nights ago I had a very scary, very vivid, and real dream. I was driving my van, the kids were in the back, and suddenly, a long red truck pulled out right in front of me. I was going really fast, and I slammed on the brakes, closed my eyes, and waited for the impact. I thought about the kids in the back. I wondered what it was going to feel like. Everything was silent, slow motion, and then I heard a loud, whooshing sound. I wondered if that was the noise that you hear right before you die. The impact never came. I woke up instead.
I quite often dream about driving. One major theme I have is not being able to stop my car. I push down on the brakes as hard as I can, but nothing happens. Usually the car is rolling down a hill or headed toward something and I have no control over it. I'm pretty sure I dream this at times that I feel I have no control over my life.
Many times my dreams inspire my fiction. I have been searching for something to put in my novel to replace the accident that is in there. It's funny, but the accident I put in there is based on something that actually happened to my grandmother when she was younger. I thought it would be great in a story, but ironically, it seems really made up and unrealistic. It has to go. I think I have found a good way to replace it. In fact, the wheels have been spinning in my head all day.
Hah! I said wheels...and it's about a car crash. I made a funny and I didn't even try!
