Harry Potter madness

It has become a summer tradition for me to re-read at least the last two Harry Potter books. It comes from the memories I have of receiving the books in the mail (always in July) and spending hours just sitting outside in the shade losing myself and forgetting everything else. And now the movie version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is coming out in theaters in a few days. I already did my annual reading for this summer, and am now looking forward to the movie.

I couldn't help but remember the excitement of receiving my pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book two years ago. Was it already two years ago? It came on a Saturday morning right to my mailbox. I held it a while before opening it. I made the kids lunch and took my spot outside in the shade. With a few interruptions to feed my kids, use the bathroom and sleep, I read straight through Sunday. Mikel stopped over Sunday evening. She picked up the book that I had set aside for a break.

"So is this the book?" she asked.

"Yeah."

She sat down with it and flipped the pages to the end, because she is sick and twisted like that.

"If you tell me what happens, we are no longer sisters," I said. It seems harsh now looking back, but we're talking about the last Harry Potter book here.

"Who's Fred?" she asked.

"DON'T TELL ME ANYTHING!"

"I'm not! Geez!"

After reading the epilogue, she said, "Huh." She gave the book back to me. "Have fun reading," she said. And she left, rolling her eyes at me. I continued reading until I was finished around 1:30 a.m.

At least I have the movies to look forward to for a couple of years. But what about when they are done? What are we Harry Potter fanatics to do?

I'm sure we'll find a way to move on with our lives.
