Searching for Summer

Thinking warm, comfortable thoughts. Searching for the light, the positive energy, good vibes, and the rainbow in everything.

I recently splurged on my Frontier order and spent $8 on a package of Java Mate. It's a blend of yerba mate tea that is supposed to taste like coffee. Yerba mate is known for it's antioxidants, and is supposed to give you energy, mental clarity, and other health benefits. I usually drink it chai flavored, and it's my favorite tea. Just now I made some of the Java Mate in my French press. I must say, it will never replace the coffee in my life, but holy shit it's some delicious tea.

I found out just this morning that I get to do an article for the paper on the homeschooling trend, specifically in Fillmore County. I LOVE having a story to do that's not a city council or school board meeting. I can't wait!

Yesterday at work we had some down time during study hall. Two of my students didn't have anything to work on at the time, and we were chatting. One of the kids found a globe and decided to look for countries that he had never heard of. We all had a good laugh because this globe is so old that it still had the USSR on it. We looked it over and found some other countries that do not exist anymore, and places that have changed names over the years. We found a small plaque on the base of the globe that said it was dedicated to some guy who died in 1972.

I told the kids, "When I die, I want the school to buy a new globe and dedicate it to me."

And then began a conversation about what the school should do to remember me upon my death. One kids joined the conversation and said that he would plant an organic garden in front of the school and dedicate it to me. They would then all hold hands around the garden and sing "Imagine," in my honor. It was hilarious, the things they came up with. And then we played Scrabble, which I love to play, and I think is good for the kids. Some of them have a hard time finding any words, and I have to help them. It's good for their brains. So even though they didn't actually work on homework, we did have a lesson in geography and English. And I bet they just think we goofed off the whole time.
