Christmas Fun

The kids and I made these gingerbread cookies the other day in preparation for the holiday get-togethers. I wanted to test them out and make sure the recipe would work out, and did it ever! I did not get all fancy with different colored frosting and decorations for my gingerbread men, I just made a simple powdered sugar icing and sprinkled red and green sugar on them. They taste no different than the ones I made last year with eggs in them, and maybe even better. I am starting to wonder why anyone uses eggs in baking anyway. Who needs them?

It was fun for the kids to roll out the dough and cut out the different shapes, but it was also a bit chaotic and very messy. You can see that Grace's clothes are covered in flour. Mine were too. If you are wondering why the boys are never in my pictures with the food, or why I have so many pictures of Grace, it's because the boys are never around begging to get their picture taken like Grace does. In face, while I was taking this picture, they were screaming in laughter as they wobbled around the house, Drew riding on Garrett's shoulders.

For the holiday festivities, I also made some Candy Cane bark that was fabulously chocolatey and easy to make. I made more gingerbread cookies, a creamy ambrosia fruit salad and the green bean casserole that I am now addicted to. Even without the things that I brought, I had plenty to eat, and managed to stuff myself quite easily. I am now crashing from a sugar high and exhausted from all of the flying wrapping paper and screaming delighted children. There's another snow storm coming and we are going to stay inside with our leftovers and new toys and enjoy being together.
