Success x2

I am supposed to be writing an article for the paper, but I am procrastinating like a high school student with a paper due. It's about a city council meeting, and it's boring as hell. It's very short, though, so it should be really easy, but here I am anyway, listening to the Beatles, checking my email every two minutes just in case, reading this new book that just came in the mail, thinking about writing and what I am going to make for supper.

This morning I was still on a high and I couldn't stop smiling. Last night was FABULOUS. The boys and I watched the election coverage with great fervor, eating popcorn as we did. They were really into it; they didn't even want to go to bed until they found out who the winner was. And then, at 10 p.m. they suddenly announced that Obama had won. Something happened that I was not expecting. I burst into tears. A warm feeling of hope had come over me, as it did millions of other people as well. How amazing to feel that feeling after being discouraged and angry for so long. To feel that people in our country are being united by this one feeling of hope and the desire to make things great.

I will not go into the comments made that pissed me off and reminded me that there are still so many ignorant, racist, small-minded people in the world. I am choosing to brush that aside right now.

A side note- We were discussing the election in Government class today and we watched Obama's acceptance speech. The teacher was talking about a woman being president someday, and a few of the guys were laughing. He made them explain themselves. They gave some seriously lame reasons that a woman would not make a good president. For the first time, I actually had an outburst of my own and called out, "Oh my god!" when one kid said that woman would be too worried about what she was going to wear. Fucking morons.

Success number two - wonderful, though not as fabulous as Obama. My sister Mikel encouraged me to make the Chai Latte cupcakes from VCTOTW, so I obliged. Then she left, saying she would come back later, and never returned. The cupcakes were really good, the perfect flavor of chai tea with powdered sugar and cocoa sprinkled on top. I took them to school today to share. Someone left a note on them thanking whoever had made the delicious cupcakes. Just more proof that vegan cupcakes ROCK!
