No Myth

I fell in love with Michael Penn as a young teenager, around the same time I discovered Elvis Costello (thanks MTV). This song is also one of my top favorite songs of all time (My list does not include Dylan songs, those are just a given). When I hear this song, I think of my dad driving me to the movie theater in Rochester to meet some of my friends. It was the Cinema theater that is no longer there. I was drinking a cup of coffee out of my favorite mug that was a light brown color, the same color that I liked my coffee to be when I added cream. This song was on the radio, and I spilled some of the coffee on my favorite jeans. The jeans stained, but I kept wearing them anyway, as a reminder of that car ride with my dad, the delicious warm coffee and the amazing song that was playing as a soundtrack to that day. Today I need to hear this song as therapy, to remember these things and write them down. And share the brilliance that is Michael Penn, who comes from a very talented family.
