Metamorphosis

Yesterday was the day...I thought maybe the caterpillars had died and were never going to come out of their cocoons. But here they are, two large beautiful monarch butterflies. The boys were so excited. They kind of crawled around in the cage (the butterflies, not the boys) but they have not flown away yet. When I saw them first, the wings on one of them were still kind of wet and shriveled. How wonderful to experience something so simple and common and beautiful first hand, and how valuable for my children to see and appreciate nature. I hope they survive now and fly away to someplace warmer.
Despite the hurried rush of the past week, the stress and the mess that has been every day, I took time out from my work to enjoy this moment with my kids. It was very therapeutic.
