Drew's Brain

Last night we were going through an A&W drive-thru for ice cream cones for the kids. As we waited in line, Garrett wondered what the letters A and W stand for. "I don't know," I replied.

Drew, submerged in a Nintendo DS game, piped up. "Allen and Wright," he muttered.

I turned in my seat to stare at him. "What?"

"It's Allen and Wright."

I was dumbfounded. "How the heck do you even know that?"

He shrugged, never looking up from his game. "I don't know. School. TV."

I laughed my ass off. Drew never says a word about school or homework or anything he has learned, and he's usually very quiet. It is SO like him to surprise the hell out of us by piping up with some random bit of knowledge. It always makes me laugh, and it always surprises me. I guess it really shouldn't.

I looked it up this morning and he was right. Allen and Wright were the guys who founded the restaurant in 1919. Who knew?
