Nerds

I was having a conversation with Drew a while ago, and we were talking about bullies. I asked him if he had ever picked on anyone. He said no, but told me about another student who likes to beat up on nerds.

"What is a nerd?" I asked him, curious about his response.

"Someone who wears glasses and is ugly."

I sighed. Started in about why that is not nice, why we shouldn't judge people on how they look, why we shouldn't pick on anyone no matter what, etc. He seemed to be receptive, but how much of it he really heard is anyone's guess.

I am just sick. He's in first grade. It only gets worse from here... Will he be one of the people in high school saying stupid fucking things like "I hate gay people"?

Not if I can help it.
