Chocolate Overload

The boys wanted me to make some cookies for them last night out of a package mix they had picked up at the grocery store, so I did. Naturally, Grace was whining and screaming for cookies, so I set forth to make some vegan cookies for her and me. I knew I wanted to make some chocolate chip cookies, and the ones from VWaV are the best EVER, but christ almighty they call for 1 cup of Earth Balance. Not only do my arteries cry at the thought, but I can not bring myself to use up my precious Earth Balance like that. So to the internet I headed, because I knew that Isa had come up with a recipe using canola oil instead, and I have even made it before. I did not find that recipe, but instead came across a recipe for Chewy Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies on Isa's Post Punk Kitchen website.

Holy shit, who cares if I can't find a good vegan brownie recipe? These things are unbelievable. The dough itself is worthy of a lusty moan while licking it from your fingers. Grace had the mixing spoon and was eating the dough off that while they baked in the oven. And then we ate them nice and warm.

Here's the thing...the recipe calls for TWO CUPS of sugar. Let me just say that I am an admitted sugar addict, and even I know that only a crazy person would do this. I used one cup, and they were sweeter than a little brown chubby chocolate lab puppy. But let's save that for later...

Here's the other thing...although these cookies are mind-numbingly delish, do NOT think that you can eat more than one, possibly two at a time. I ate two, after eating some of the dough, and I had a stomach ache the rest of the evening. They are rich, gooey, chocolatey, heavenly, and go wonderfully with a glass of cold soy milk. But definitely to be enjoyed in moderation.

And people think vegans are deprived. Hah!
