A Vegan at Work

This school year has brought about many changes for me at work. This year, I am a vegan, and so my choices of snacks and stuff are more limited. This is a good thing. I can no longer run down to the cafeteria when I feel the urge and buy a chocolate chip cookie or some other nasty thing, running up my lunch account until I am $20 in the hole without realizing it (I did this last year). Also, when my coworkers bring junk food, which they always do, I am no longer tempted to eat it. Donuts from the local grocery store, fresh and warm? No thanks. A bag of Hershey's chocolates in the cupboard? Not this year. Today someone brought some homemade apple cake she had made, and she even made it low fat and all that stuff, but there were egg whites in it. She actually apologized to me, like it's her job to fulfill my dietary needs. I told her not to worry about it. It's my choice. And I told her that I would bring some banana chocolate chip muffins this week. I want everyone to see that you can bake and eat quite happily without animal products.

With these changes you would think that I would have lost some weight. Oh, no! I have figured my way around these things. I have also managed to avoid any and all kinds of physical exercise. I have to get serious about doing better this winter, when the urge to sit on my butt and eat carbohydrates becomes overwhelming. I want to feel better and look better. And fit into those jeans that have been sitting in my drawer since before Grace was born.
