Synchronicity

April and I never had an art class together. She was there for the quiet first hour, when everyone is still tired. I had it after lunch, when we were wild and wound up, and we had a blast. One day the teacher had us try to design the Rochesterfest button for that summer (Rochesterfest being an annual festival in my hometown consisting of a parade, street dance and lots of other stuff lasting a week or so). Knowing I was never going to win anyway, I created a button with an image of a Campbell's soup can that advertised the event. In a touch of synchronicity, I later discovered that April had drawn a big yellow banana on hers. Neither one of us were particularly big Andy Warhol fans, and as far as I can remember, we never even discussed him. But we were in sync for the one shining moment. Like in life when everything seems to flow together perfectly, everything is perfect for that one, brief moment before a kink is thrown in the gears and things get messy again.

Of course, neither one of our designs was chosen, but we had fun, which is the most important thing.
