REM flashback

R.E.M. – Texarkana

I stumbled across this song last night, and it brought back a lot of memories. Not only that, it stirred up emotions, smells, sights and sounds from years ago. There are a few songs that can do this to me more than others, and this is one of them. One thing that it brings up is learning to play this song on guitar years ago. I can almost feel the strings and frets under my fingers. It's amazing how learning how to play an instrument (even as little as I know about guitar) changes the way you hear all music after that. I had my husband's MP3 player, and when the pain came on last night, I sat in the chair listening to this song over and over, feeling a tremendous urge to write, knowing that even being a writer, I could not put into words what I was feeling. You can be sure that I am on an REM kick now for a while. I'm going to dig out the old CDs and lose myself in them. Then I will write.
